The Chinese International School Foundation (CIS), which was established in 1981 and opened its Primary School in 1983, is an independent, nondenominational, coeducational day school, dedicated to providing a high quality international education that encompasses both Chinese and western languages and cultures. Students learn and are taught in both English and Chinese (Mandarin), and the curriculum is based on standard subjects taught in most western countries and includes the study of Chinese history, arts and culture.  The Lower Secondary now follows the IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) and the Upper Secondary follows the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) curriculum.
